We spend one third of our life in dream land so it makes perfect sense to make certain that our bed is one of the most inviting spaces in our homes.
Most importantly, we want to start with the best bed that fits our budget. Due to the fact that we spend so much time in bed, it makes perfect sense to buy a great mattress, frame and sheets. This becomes the place of comfort first and foremost.
However; after the base it makes perfect sense to create a space that appeals to our eyes as we want to feel like we can hardly wait to get in at night. Most of us will start with white sheets as that becomes the backdrop for the layering of pattern, colour and textures that will follow.
Whether it is winter or summer, layering is the key to enhancing any style on the bed. You may choose to begin with neutrals as the initial duvet, spread and shams. I personally like when all these match to create a foundation for accents to be added. For a cleaner look, you may wish to stack your everyday pillows with your large shams.
From this point we can add and play with patterns, colour and even differing textures in order to add depth and contrast. You may choose to do this with other differing sized/shaped pillows, quilts or throws which add texture at the base of the bed. With extra pillows, an easy rule of thumb is to add three and these can all be different in order to add interest.
