Our Favourite Mudroom Styling & Design Elements

Mudrooms are put to the test all four seasons of the year. From trekking in snow during the winter months and dirt and mud during the rainy and warmer months, mudrooms need to be functional and easy to clean. With that said, it doesn’t mean you have to skip out on style and beauty in this space.

We’ve compiled a list of our favourite elements and additions to a functional but beautiful mudroom.

RUGS

A rug is a must have in a mudroom and we always recommend an indoor/outdoor for maximum washability. Some of our favourite styles come from Dash & Albert - they have a beautiful line of indoor / outdoor rugs that are made from Polypropylene and PET (made from recycled plastic water bottles).

STORAGE

Storage is a mudroom MUST. If it’s in the budget, opt for custom cabinetry to optimize functionality specifically for your families needs. If custom is not in the budget, there are many beautiful storage options, one of our favourites being the Pax series from Ikea. It’s budget friendly and very customizable.

BENCH

If space permits, add a bench! Having a place to sit and put on or take off your shoes is a bonus. It’s also nice to set bags on while packing up for your day.

FLOORS

If you’re changing up flooring, opt for nonporous surfaces in this space. Mudrooms are high traffic areas so you want materials that are easy to clean like stone or tile. Porcelain or slate are two great options.

HOOKS

Hooks, hooks and more hooks! Hooks are great for hanging purses, backpacks, jackets, hats and so on. If you don’t have enough space for cabinetry storage, hooks are your best bet!

BASKETS

Lastly, another great solution if you don’t have enough space for a large amount of storage is large catch all baskets. These are great for holding hats, gloves, scarves and any other soft goods you want within reach.
